Boat movement / waves / milestone delivery

Proving out a boat racer on a small budget

Boat movement development.

Seafair was a sea-boat racing game I worked on with a client who had a very limited budget. We kept the work in short milestones, focusing on what we needed to prove out his ideas and give him a demo he could take forward and showcase.

Waves interacting with the boat.

I started with the general boat movement component. The wave work then developed in stages: the first version was visual only, before the waves were made to physically interact with the player's boat. That moved them from something happening around the race to something that affected the boat itself.

Working in small increments gave us a way to make progress within the budget rather than trying to build everything at once. The result was a working demo of the idea, with the movement and wave interaction developed far enough for the client to show what he wanted to make.
